Top rugby player Jansin Turgut critically ill after Ibiza Airport car park fall

A rugby league ace is fighting for his life after falling from a car park at Ibiza Airport.

Jansin Turgut, 23, fell from the third floor of the car park at around 3am this morning - suffering 'very serious' head injuries.

The former Salford Red Devils player was admitted to an intensive care unit at a hospital on the island.

It's understood he suffered multiple injuries in the fall.

Former England academy captain Turgut was sacked by the Red Devils in early April.

Director of rugby operations Ian Blease later revealed he had been suspended for allegedly breaching club protocol.

Headteacher on £260,000 a year killed himself after being ousted from job

A subsequent statement from the club, released earlier this month after an internal investigation, said: “Salford have terminated the contract of Jansin Turgut, following an internal investigation

"The club would like to thank Jansin for his time at the Red Devils and will be making no further comment on the subject."

A Spanish police source told the Daily Star: "We can confirm it is him (Turgut) and he is in a very serious state in hospital.

"There is nothing more that we can say at the moment. We are looking into the incident and we are talking with his family."

Turgut, born in Kingston-upon-Hull, left former club Hull FC last season and had signed a short-term deal with Salford until the end of the campaign before agreeing a new longer term contact after impressing.

He represented England Academy against the Australian Schoolboys in 2014 and made his Hull FC debut on March 5 2015 in a Super League match against Leeds Rhinos at the KC Stadium.

He is of Turkish origin through his father and represented Turkey in the 2018 Emerging Nations World Championships, captaining a side that won three of their four games.

Civil Guard investigators probing the Ibiza Airport car park plunge this morning are still looking into why it happened.

A source said: “A full report will be passed onto an investigating judge.

"At this stage the incident is not being treated as a crime.”

It is not yet clear if he had just arrived in Ibiza or was about to leave the island, or if he was alone at the time or accompanied by others.
