As we start the second week of free agency it’s worth noting that most of the big names have already come off the board. There are still several free agents worth taking a look at who will contribute to teams in 2019. Here are the top available free agents remaining that the Chiefs should take a look at.

Ndamukong Suh DT Rams
Other than some recently released Chiefs, Ndamakong Suh is regarded as the best remaining free agent available. Last season he waited quite sometime and was very selective before choosing to sign with the Rams. Perhaps as money drys up he might consider taking a one-year deal with the Chiefs in pursuit of a championship run in Kansas City.
Tim Jernigan DT Eagles
The Eagles didn’t renew their option on Tim Jernigan. He was traded to the Eagles in 2017 and started 15 games during their championship season. Jernigan only appeared in five games in 2018 (regular season & playoff) after dealing with herniated disk surgery and back spasms upon his return. He’s a prime candidate for one-year prove-it style deal.
Adrian Clayborn DE Patriots
Adrian Clayborn was recently granted his release by the New England Patriots. The Chiefs’ new defensive line coach Brendan Daly worked with Clayborn in New England in 2018. Clayborn is from St. Louis, Missouri. Perhaps he’s looking to come play football a little closer to home. In 2017 with the Falcons, Clayborn had a bigger role and notched 9.5 sacks.
Morris Claiborne CB Jets
The Chiefs didn’t pursue Claiborne in 2016, so there’s little indication they would now. The past two seasons with the Jets he’s started 30 games, and in 2018 he set career highs for total tackles (57), interceptions (2), and passes defended (14). This late in the process, he might be the top option for an outside corner.

Darqueze Dennard CB Bengals
Darqueze Dennard is actually visiting the Chiefs today. I’m very intrigued by this option because he’s mainly been a slot corner for the Bengals. The Chiefs currently have that spot occupied with Kendall Fuller. Could they explore trading Fuller? Given Dennard’s penchant for good run defense and tackling, I’m wondering if the Chiefs might not look to play him at the safety position. Perhaps they view him as making the transition to outside corner and being more successful there.
Tre Boston S Cardinals
New secondary coach Dave Merritt had Tre Boston in Arizona in 2018. If the Chiefs are still looking to add a free safety, a reunion between those two wouldn’t be the worst idea. Boston started 13 games for the Cards in 2018 and recorded three interceptions, nine passes defended, and 71 total tackles.
Jared Cook TE Raiders
The Chiefs have a new need for depth behind Travis Kelce with the departure of Demetrius Harris. Cook won’t be cheap, but he’d make for a nice complement to Kelce in the passing game. He’s a great receiver, but I’m not sure the Chiefs will be interested given Cook is not big on blocking in-line or downfield.
Ryan Grant WR Colts
Ryan Grant had an injury filled season with the Colts. He signed a one-year deal in 2018 with the expectation of becoming the Colts No. 2 receiver. Injuries held him back significantly with the Colts. If the Chiefs can somehow get the 2017 version of Ryan Grant on a low-cost deal, it’d be a big win for the team.
Quinton Spain G Titans
I wouldn’t hate the idea of adding more competition along the offensive line at both guard spots. The Chiefs brought Laurent Duvernay-Tardif back from injured reserve during the playoffs and didn’t feel comfortable playing him. The expectation is obviously that he’ll be available in 2019. Andrew Wylie filled in at right guard and the Chiefs are high on him. Spain has been a solid left guard for the Titans. He moves well in space and provides a physical presence in the run game.
