Top portrait artist Gerard Burns visit Castle Douglas

Top portrait artist Gerard Burns visited Castle Douglas last week.

An exhibition of 30 of his original artworks is currently on display at The Artist @ Burford Antiques, run by Kirsty and Jason Burford.

Gerard was happy to chat to customers about the display, Gerard Burns D&G Exhibition, and also signed books while taking the chance to relax from his busy schedule talking about his work, painting techniques and travels.

He said: ”I have never been to this area before. I am delighted to be exhibiting here. It’s a wonderful space. I’m looking forward to spending a few nights here and taking the area in.”

Many people will recognise Gerard for his stunning portraits of Brian Cox, Sir Billy Connolly, Ewan McGregor and Doddie Weir to name but a few. Described as “one of the best know portrait artists and unrivalled in his field”, his work is hung all over the world including Canada and the USA.

The exhibition has been extended through August to allow more people the rare chance to see his work.

Jason Burford said: “We were over the moon when Gerard agreed to exhibit with us. For a newly established gallery this is a real accolade and we have been astounded by the positive feedback and encouraging comments that people have made about the new gallery and shop.”
