Top paying jobs you can get without a university degree - and one pays £90,000

Job site Adzuna has shared 20 different roles which pay more than the UK average salary of £33,000 and don't require a university degree.

One of the roles which had been advertised on the site in March 2023 had an annual salary of £90,000.

The common mindset of UK job hunters is that you need to have a university degree to bag yourself a job with a high salary.

However, as the average student is expected to have a debt of around £43,000 after completing their course and many are turning away from this traditional route into work.

Andrew Hunter, co-founder of Adzuna noted that for many of today's trending roles "knowledge and skills are far more important than formal education".

Andrew said: "A university degree is no longer the only ticket to a high paying career, as more industries look to expand their talent pools to a more diverse range of applicants and offer on the job training."

The job with the highest annual salary advertised in March 2023 was the role of casino gaming manager which had a yearly pay packet of £90,000.

According to Adzuna, the IT sector boasts several high paying roles which surprisingly do not require a computer science qualification.

High-paying roles within this sector included scrum master, ethical hacker, and software developer.

A scrum master acts as a project manager for IT and tech development and had an average advertised salary of £62,834 last month.

An ethical hacker works to try and penetrate a computer system to reveal vulnerabilities to the system owners and last month had an average annual salary of £61,497.

Other roles which had an average advertised salary of over £50,000 in March 2023 included air traffic controller, train driver, and commercial pilot.

Whilst a degree isn't required for these jobs, it should be noted that other requirements may be needed such as GCSE qualifications or external certifications.

Andrew added: "With the cost-of-living rising, we expect to see more school-leavers consider whether university is right for them, or if jumping straight into learning a skill or vocation is the more cost effective path.”

While you won't necessarily need a university education to get one of these roles listed below, you will need experience in your chosen sector.

This is because they are senior positions - so you'll likely already need to be in a similar job or be prepared to work your way up.
