Top No10 official warned 'we're absolutely f****d' amid Covid chaos, claims Cummings

A Top No10 official warned “we’re absolutely f****d” as the Government’s response to Covid-19 descended into chaos, Dominic Cummings has claimed.

Boris Johnson ’s former top aide recounted a “completely surreal day” on March 12, 2020 saying the events were like a “scene from the movie Independence Day”.

Mr Cummings said he had met with data scientist Ben Warner “and that’s essentially when they hit the total panic button with me.”

He said they had told him: “We’re looking at all this data, we’re looking at all these graphs, we’re heading for total and utter catastrophe, we need to have a Plan B.”

According to former Deputy Cabinet Secretary Helen Macnamara, he said, another top official, Mark Sweeney had told her “I’ve been told for years there is a whole plan for this.

“There is no plan. We’re in huge trouble.”

He said Ms Macnamara added: “I think we are absolutely f****d.

“I think this country is heading for a disaster, I think we are going to kill thousands of people.”

Mr Cummings added: “On the 14th we said to the PM you are going to have to lock down but there is no lockdown plan.

“It doesn’t exist. SAGE haven’t modelled it. [The Department of Health and Social Care] don’t have a plan. We are going to have to figure out and hack together a lockdown plan.”

He went on: “This is like a scene from Independence Day with Jeff Goldblum saying the aliens are here and your whole plan is broken and you need a new plan.”

Mr Cummings said Mr Warner was in the Jeff Goldblum role - a brilliant but overlooked scientist who raised the alarm on an alien invasion.
