Top Irish lawyer tells of 'weird' one-hour break rule for retail staff after just 3 hours

A top Irish lawyer has revealed a little known law that could mean you are entitled to a longer break than you think.

Viral sensation solicitor Richard Grogan has gained over 100 thousand followers for his explanations of Irish law.

Richard has been praised by followers yet again for publishing a law established in 1998 that entitles retail workers to a one hour break after just three hours of work.

In the video, Richard says: "Now, it's getting to the weekend, and I thought I'd cover something weird and wonderfuls, and one of the great ones is for retail staff, people working in retail.

"Maybe you're going to be going out shopping this weekend, and maybe you can tell them what their rights are.

"Now if you work between 11.30 in the morning and 2.30 in the afternoon, you have to get a one hour break and that one hour break has to be given to you between 11.30 and 2.30 because that's the law since 1998.

"Not a lot of people know that."

However, Richard added that the law isn't that straightforward as there is a catch.

He said: "Now, it does not apply and there's always a, but in Irish law, if the shop sells intoxicating liquor, boos for drinking, there or they sell food for eating there, and that's why you'll find in a lot of bigger shops they have a cafeteria.

"So, that's so nobody is going to get the one hour break and just the ordinary breaks."
