Top Gun: Maverick – Tom Cruise unveils new poster for eagerly anticipated sequel

Tom Cruise  has unveiled a new poster for the hugely anticipated sequel to Top Gun.

The new film, titled Top Gun: Maverick, will be released in 2020, 34 years after the original.

The first trailer premiered at San Diego Comic-Con this summer, and Cruise has now revealed a new poster for the film on Instagram. He also announced that a second trailer will go live tomorrow (17 December).

Joining Cruise in the new film is Ed Harris, whose high-ranking official could be seen in the film’s first trailer calling lead character Maverick – now an instructor attempting to get his head around drones – a “dinosaur”.

Other new cast members in the film include Glen Powell (Set It Up), Lewis Pullman and Jon Hamm.

Miles Teller is also set to play Maverick’s protege and the son of Goose, who was played in the original by Anthony Edwards. Val Kilmer additionally reprises his role of Tom “Iceman” Kazansky.

The character of flight instructor Charlie Blackwood, however, won’t feature. Kelly McGillis played the role in the original film.

Top Gun: Maverick, directed by Oblivion’s Joseph Kosinski, is released 17 July 2020.
