Top Gun: Maverick star Tom Cruise beams with joy as he meets with Red Arrows

Top Gun star Tom Cruise shocked attendees when he showed up at the Royal International Air Tattoo in Gloucestershire.

The Hollywood actor has been in the UK for some time and had a blast at the event, which was cancelled in 2020 and 2021.

It's the world's largest military air show, held yearly on the third weekend in July, usually at RAF Fairford in Gloucestershire, in support of The Royal Air Force Charitable Trust.

Red Arrows, which is the aerobatics display team of the Royal Air Force, took to their Twitter page to share a great picture of the team posing with Mr. Maverick himself, Tom.

"We’ve got a new wingman…. Today, Maverick joined the Red Arrows! Epic to meet @TomCruise at the Royal International Air Tattoo and to speak about aviation, teamwork and Top Gun," they captioned the post.

Tom wore a navy blue suit for the event and stood in line with the rest of the Red Arrows.

Former Tornado GR4 pilot Mandy Hickson revealed on Twitter that Tom even looked for her so she could sign a copy of her new book for him.

The two even posed for a selfie, with Tom holding up her book, An Officer. Not A Gentleman, for the camera.

"Highlight of my life so far!!! incredible day @airtattoo got to meet the incredible @TomCruise Loved chatting to @rafredarrows @RAFRedArrowsOC.," she said.

" @carolvorders and @jo_salter were on top Form."

It comes as taking for Tom's new Top Gun film have soared past £1 billion earlier this week.

Top Gun: Maverick had raked in £1,019,369,716 in less than two months by Friday night with cash still rolling in worldwide.

And insiders say the evergreen Cruise’s slice – so far – is around £120million.

It is the biggest ever hit for the star, who brokered a deal for a reported 12% share of revenue, and Paramount Pictures studio’s highest-grossing movie of all time.

US audiences have stumped up almost half of the box office cash with UK audiences shelling out an estimated £70m on tickets.

Brodie Cooper of US marketing agency PRrppd said: “Tom Cruise is the biggest box office draw on the planet – 35 years from his 80s heyday. These figures are astonishing. The fan devotion is astounding.

“If reports are true the cut of profits means Tom is poised to take home over £100m.”
