A new four-part series on the highs and lows of a growing Glasgow restaurant empire is due to air on BBC Scotland later this month.
Six by Nico is a name familiar to any Glasgow foodie worth their salt, and the Finnieston restaurant with a unique concept - a theme that changes every six weeks - has spawned further branches in Edinburgh, London, Manchester, Liverpool and Belfast.
The Northern Irish restaurant is the subject of the BBC documentary Nico’s Menu Mission, following 29-year-old chef Nico Simeone as he opens the doors in Belfast for the first time.
The trailer for the first episode teases: “The first theme at Belfast is the highly respected chippy menu. We see how Nico takes everyday dishes - chips and cheese, scampi, steak pie - and with a twist of creative power, turns them into fine dining. Another unique aspect of Nico’s restaurants is the price - it is less than half the price of other tasting menus.
“Will the menu and the price be successful in Belfast? With three days to go, the restaurant still looks like a building site. Will they beat the clock and be able to open in time?”
We don’t know about you, but having followed the talented chef’s journey from the beginning and 111 by Nico all the way to his growing empire today, we’ll be tuning to watch.
The first episode airs on BBC Scotland on Thursday, June 25 at 10.30pm.
