Top Gear viewers admit they would 'rather watch reruns on Dave' as revamped show hits lowest ever ratings

Top Gear sunk to a new low on Sunday night as the fourth episode of the Chris Evans and Matt LeBlanc fronted series attracted just 2.3million viewers.

Dropping a further 700,000 viewers from last week, according to reports, it's the lowest ever for the BBC Two show, with every Clarkson era episode managing to score more.

Viewers on Twitter were as vocal as usual, with many trouncing the episode.

"5 minutes of #TopGear and it was switched off. Cringy, rehearsed and awkward. #FlopGear," one viewer complained.

Others were unsure how long they could stick with it: "Not sure how much #TopGear I'll keep watching. The "race" just wasn't the same. @harrismonkey the only saviour of the show so far."

Another admitted they were just going to wait for Jeremy's return on Amazon Prime: "Well I've tried to enjoy the new Top Gear but it's absolute b*******. Not watching anymore. I'm sticking with the original 3. @thegrandtour"

Or watching re-runs of previous episodes: "Watching top gear Vietnam special. Not even going to bother with the new top gear. Watched 1st one and that was it never again (s***)."

Others urged the BBC to ditch the new look series: "I no longer even try to watch new Top Gear - it's rubbish and the BBC should just face up to it."

Chris Evans and his shouting remained an issue for this viewer: "I mean I like the new @BBC_TopGear but @achrisevans needs to stop shouting when everyone else is talking normally. Headache provoking."

"The people have spoken @BBC_TopGear ... Get rid of Chris Evans," another wrote.

Matt's Brexit joke managed to rescue the show a little, with many admitting they weren't as turned off by the American.

But Chris was getting trolled even before the show began.

Tweeting a 15minute warning that she show was about to begin, he was inundated with abuse about why people wouldn't be watching.

"After 1st episode I was so engrossed in watching paint dry i didn't even realise it was on...anymore. Not cancelled yet?" one fans asked.

"sure the 20 people watching will enjoy it luv," (sic) one responded, while this fan admitted: "no thanks would rather watch reruns of the old top gear on dave!"

Even those who've already decided to turn off couldn't resist sticking the boot in, with the viewer adding: "I would rather perform my own brain surgery then watch the new #TopGear"

Ouch!
