Top Gear facing major shake-up as show moves to new base in Bristol for first time

Top Gear is set to face a major shake-up as BBC Studios is moving production of the show to Bristol.

The motoring series is currently filmed in London, and will relocate to the city from spring next year.

Dunsfold Aerodrome in Surrey will continue to be used as the show's track, but the move to Bristol has been dubbed as "exciting" by a BBC boss.

Hannah Wyatt, managing director for factual entertainment and events productions, said in a statement: "Our Bristol hub is an already incredibly successful and vibrant production base that makes many of our highly popular returning factual entertainment series and blue-chip natural history titles – so the Top Gear team will be in very good creative company. It's an exciting move for the show."

The next season, which will be broadcast in 2022, will be the first to be produced from the new base - with Andrew Flintoff, Paddy McGuinness and Chris Harris presenting the 33rd series of the show.

BBC Studios in Bristol is also home to other hit programmes, including Countryfile, Antiques Roadshow and DIY SOS.

Andrew, Paddy and Chris began presenting Top Gear in 2018 - and fans of the show love the trio.

They have had some wild moments on the series, which have also nearly resulted in death.

In 2020 Paddy crashed a Lamborghini Diablo in Yorkshire, whilst Freddie previously smashed into a market stall during filming in Mansfield in 2019 and crashed a motorised trike last year.

However the most recent series - which aired in March - is more light-hearted, as it features episodes on James Bond cars.

It also gets emotional as the presenters drive in cars they used to travel in with their fathers as children. It sees them behind the wheel of a BMW, Ford Fiesta and a Cortina.

The series features segments such as the hosts driving in cars they used to travel in as children with their dads.
