Top football official resigns after using N-word at meeting

A top football official has resigned after making a racist remark at a meeting where an anti-racism campaign was on the agenda.

Scott Robertson, General Secretary of the Scottish Junior Football Association, stood down from the role this morning after clubs rejected an emailed apology sent out yesterday afternoon.

Robertson admitted using th phrase "n***** in the woodpile' at a quarterly meeting of the West Region on Thursday night - in front of around 50 delegates.

The meeting had began with Show Racism the Red Card literature being distributed around the room.

Clubs were informed of his resignation via a blanket email sent out by West Region chiefs.

It read: "Scott Robertson has resigned from his position as General Secretary of the West Region.

"The West Region Management committee have accepted his resignation with immediate effect.

"Scott's comments at the recent General Meeting were unacceptable and can not be condoned by the Managing Committee, we do not accept discrimination in any form.

"The Position of General Secretary will be reviewed in due course, in the interim, all correspondence should be sent to the Assistant Secretary."

Robertson made the offensive comment at a quarterly meeting of West Region clubs – during a discussion on Junior teams joining the SPFL football pyramid.

It was made in reference to the East of Scotland League being an obstacle to the pyramid.
