Top five ways to find the best supermarket coupon deals

Coupons can be a great way of saving money when you shop and with prices rising everywhere there's never been a better time to save a few pounds.

Coupons used to be found in newspapers, magazines and flyers posted through the door. Although coupons can still be found in these outlets, the majority of money-saving coupons can now be found online.

But while many businesses are becoming more and more online focused, coupons can still be found in a number of places you may not have realised. Here are five ways you can find the best supermarket deals to save you money on your shopping.

Top five ways to find the best supermarket deals

1. Check for online codes before starting an online shop

Some supermarkets have special codes that can reduce your shopping spend or even give you freebies that don't cost anything. Take a closer look at the Sainsbury's Freebies & Competitions page.

Current offers include free Good Earth Tea, or the chance to win tech prizes, gin and coffee.

2. Loyalty schemes could mean big money savings if you know where to look

Although this is predominantly a marketing scheme run by companies to nurture deeper connections with customers, it can also be a great way to save your hard-earned money. Google the place where you do your weekly shop and see if they run a loyalty scheme.

For example, Tesco's Clubcard points can be changed into vouchers. These can be redeemed against other rewards, or as money off your Tesco shop (both in-store and online).

Boots Health & Beauty Magazine, which is a free monthly publication also usually contains coupons and money-off codes if you buy certain products.

3. Bus tickets or ATM cash machines

If you use public transport, keep hold of your ticket. Some have meal deals or offers printed on the reverse, from advertisers such as fast-food chain McDonald's.

4. Flyers through the door might be worth a look

Your first instinct might be to crush junk mail and lob it in the recycling bin. However, you may be missing out on some money-saving deals.

Take a few seconds to scan the junk mail and you may discover hidden coupons or money-off vouchers. Eateries such as Domino's Pizza, Papa John's, Costa and Subway have all printed codes on leaflets, so it is worth keeping an eye on junk mail which may not be so junky after all.

5. Cashback apps that could get you money back into your pocket

Download and sign up to cashback apps that offer you money back on selected products. These apps have partnered with other brands, who pay them for generating money through sales.

However, some of that money is passed back to you and sometimes, the added bonus might be a freebie. CheckoutSmart, GreenJinn and Shopmium are a few cashback apps that may help you return money into your wallet.
