How to stop slippy lippy

This one from Guardian fashion’s Morwenna Ferrier: “Apply three coats of lipstick, dusting pressed powder with an eyeshadow brush on your lips in between each layer. It stays on for about eight hours.”

How to paint your left hand if you’re a lefty, and vice versa

Fashionista has the definitive answer on on how to paint your non-dominant hand. “Instead of focusing on keeping your non-dominant hand steady while slowly applying the polish, keep it still and let your dominant hand do all the movement,” writes Fawnia Soo Hoo. “ I actually tried this last night and it was — and I’m not being hyperbolic here — LIFE-CHANGING.”

Eyeliner hack #1

Ever wondered how some get eyeliner so right, while others spend their entire life getting it wrong? One issue is creating a subtle look that actually looks subtle. Tight liner could be your answer. Take your eyeliner and use a flat brush to apply to the underside of your eyelid. It’s quick, easy and creates that open-eyed effect. Laura Mercier’s tight liner is recommended but any gel, cream or pencil will work.

Eyeliner hack #2

Want flicky eyeliner much? Hadley Freeman found the answer on YouTube. “For the first time, in all my 36 years, I managed to do an eyeliner flick. I am more proud of myself that I’ve ever been in my entire life. The trick is to do the flick from under your eye, not over and across the the eyelid.”

Spoon your mascara

Mascara hacks have been passed down from generation to generation, with older sisters showing their younger siblings how a few drops of eye makeup remover will declog their tube and how to wipe off the wand to get rid of excess makeup. But our favourite one involves using the common or garden spoon to catch excess mascara and stop it from getting on your skin. Easy, and works on both upper and lower lashes.
