Top firms overhaul HR systems to keep up

Digital disruption is driving the top 50 business organisations in Thailand to modernise their human resources (HR) functions, re-skill their workforces and recruit talent through chatbot systems.

Banks and manufacturing have pushed the digital transformation in human capital management.

"This year we foresee businesses in Thailand will need to upgrade the core of their traditional HR systems to become modern and cope with rapid changes from digital disruption," said Natasak Rodjanapiches, managing director of Oracle in Myanmar and Thailand.

A modernised human capital management (HCM) system is one of the key engines for digital transformation in business organisations, he said.

The modern HCM will allow organisations to search and meet more qualified people through chatbots.

The system needs to use artificial intelligence (AI) and data analytics, said Mr Natasak.

This will enable organisations to screen potential candidates and reduce the churn rate of employees.

The new HCM should connect with training systems that have the ability to bridge the gap of multi-generational workers and match each employee with particular areas of skill that they need to learn.

For a safer environment in manufacturing sites and hospitals, the system should also connect with Internet of Things technology such as wearable devices.

Mark Maclean, human capital consulting leader in Southeast Asia for Deloitte, said digital technology, in particular automation, cognitive systems and AI, are threatening existing workforces, however these tools can help eliminate repetitive tasks and create more time to add value to their jobs.

"If we can eliminate these tasks, it can increase time for HR to train the existing workforce in new skills as well as recruit talent that meet job requirements," he said.

"Developing and equipping workforces with digital information allows organisations to boost capability, which is important for Thailand 4.0."

The rise of digital technology also upgrades traditional workplaces, providing hyper-connected infrastructure and collaborative tools such as smart offices for employees, in particular millennial workers.

"We found millennials stay with companies less than two years," said Mr Maclean.
