Top Edinburgh restaurant apologises as waiter 'turns away and ignores' diner

An Edinburgh tourist has been left feeling disappointed with the service they received at The Ivy on The Square in the capital.

The visitor decided to visit the restaurant on St Andrew Square for a meal where they told of being greeted by a rather unhelpful worker on their arrival. Bosses of the popular eatery have since apologised.

The unhappy customer took to review site TripAdvisor to air their concerns about the level of service at the restaurant. The person wrote: "I went to the Ivy in Edinburgh for a meal with my family.

"We waited in the entrance area for quite a while as the woman on the desk chatted to her colleague ignoring us. My daughter started talking to her on the way in and she literally turned away and ignored her. Not a great start."

The reviewer also noted that the standard of food was below par, as they added: "The food arrived with a mixup on the order and we waited quite a while for the correct vegetables to arrive.

"I personally think the food was mediocre and overpriced. I will not be returning."

Following this scathing online review, a manager from The Ivy on The Square responded apologising to the customer, as they said: "We are truly sorry to hear about your recent experience with us and we would be grateful for the chance to connect with you following your disappointing visit.

"May we please ask you to get in touch with us and provide your contact details through the link. Looking forward to hearing back from you."

The Ivy on The Square is typically a well-reviewed restaurant, averaging four out of five stars on Tripadvisor. Service is four and a half stars out of five on average, with food at a four, and value for money at three and a half stars.

One reviewer was extremely impressed with the restaurant, as they wrote: "I had been wanting to try The Ivy for a while and finally got a chance on a business strip to Edinburgh. I booked on line the service on arrival was really first class. Polite, welcoming and efficient.

"It was busy for a week day night which reflects the popularity I guess. I have the chicken ivy pate for starter and chicken for main course and they were both excellent dishes.

"The presentation and food quality was good the sauce with the chicken especially tasty."
