The tragic tale of the murder of Mr Moonlight could be on its way to the big screen.
Major movie director Jim Sheridan went to the trial and may now bring the story of the gruesome murder a wider audience.
The Dubliner is well known for his critically acclaimed films “My Left Foot” and “In the Name of the Father”.

He also directed “The Field” which similar to the trial follows a difficult series of events in a small rural community.
“I mean it is The Field”, he told the Sunday Independent. “It reminded me of it. That’s why, subconsciously, I went along to have a look”.
He added: “Land, the whole thing, it’s all there. It is very like it”.
Mr Sheridan said he was “there in the court a few times” out of “curiosity” but would take the family’s concerns into account before bringing it to the box office.
“I didn’t really want to pursue the family because I know everyone will be pursuing them but I think it would make a very interesting documentary”, he said.
“If the family approach me to see if I could do anything on it, then I would”.
Mr Sheridan said that the jailed man seemed to be an “isolated” figure and that the impact of the trial would have had a big impact on the local community where they all lived.

“There are so many people involved”, he said. “My heart goes out to them. It’s a tragic story”.
Earlier this month Patrick Quirke was jailed for the murder of part time DJ Bobby Ryan also known by his stage name Mr Moonlight.
The case was the longest murder trial in the history of the state.
