Top Democrats demand that Whitaker recuse himself from Mueller's investigation

Top Senate and House Democrats demanded that acting Attorney General Matthew Whitaker immediately recuse himself from special Counsel Robert Mueller's investigation, saying he has multiple conflicts of interest, including hostile statements about the investigation.

An emailed letter objecting to Whitaker's appointment was sent to the Justice Department's chief ethics official, Assistant Attorney General Lee Lofthus, by lawmakers including Senate Democratic Leader Charles E. Schumer of New York, House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi of California, Senate Judiciary Committee ranking member Dianne Feinstein of California and House Judiciary Committee ranking member Jerrold Nadler of New York.

They demanded that Lofthus inform them immediately whether he has advised Whitaker to step away from the Mueller investigation.
