Top council meeting on economy recovery in Dumfries and Galloway to be screened online tomorrow

Dumfries and Galloway residents have the chance to see the council in action tomorrow when a top level meeting will be screened online.

The ad hoc Covid-19 sub committee was set up to keep local authority business going amid the Scottish Governent’s lockdown rules on large gatherings.

Now councillors will appear on webcasts and the public can tune in from 10.30am when the meeting kicks off tomorrow.

Among the items up for discussion are: an economic recovery update; Covid-19 financial Pressures; the implications for early learning and childcare; regeneration capital grant fund for 2021/22 plus Common Good Fund issues.

Council Leader Elaine Murray said: “During the Covid-19 emergency, the public can watch our committee meetings from the safety and comfort of their own homes.

“They’ll be able to see and hear members as they discuss and decide the outcomes of Council business.”

Depute Leader Rob Davidson said: “It’s vitally important that during the Covid-19 emergency the public are still able to attend committee meetings.

“I’m delighted that our council is able to offer the public the chance to join us for our webcast of meetings.”

The council established its ad hoc Covid-19 sub committee on March 20 to focus on continuing council business and issues arising from the coronavirus pandemic while adhering to social distancing guidelines.

Membership of the sub committee comprises four councillors from the Labour/SNP Administration, three Conservative, one Independent, and one Socialist/Non-Affiliated.

Chairman is council leader Dr Murray and vice chairman is depute leader Councillor Davidson.

Committee members who cannot attend in person will be able to join virtually.

Other meetings to be live streamed include: Covid-19 sub committee on Tuesday, June 16 at 10.30am; Covid-19 sub committee on Tuesday 23 June, at 10.30am and the full council meeting on Thursday, June 25, again with a 10.30am start.
