Top cop Eddie Johnson hospitalized after doctors find blood clot in lung

Chicago Police Supt. Eddie Johnson

Chicago Police Supt. Eddie Johnson will spend Friday night in the hospital after doctors found a “small blood clot” in his lung during a routine checkup, officials said.

CPD spokesman Anthony Guglielmi said the superintendent went to Rush University Medical Center for his annual stress test.

“While the stress test results were normal, doctors at Chicago’s Rush University Medical Center found a small blood clot in his lung which will be treated with medication and rest,” Guglielmi said in a statement, adding that Johnson will spend the night at Rush for observation.

Johnson underwent kidney transplant surgery at Rush in August 2017. His son Daniel — now a CPD officer in the Gresham District on the South Side — was the donor.
