Twenty executive chefs from Bangkok's leading hotels and Thai Airways International are to showcase their culinary talents through a multi-course gourmet feast at the Mandarin Oriental, Bangkok's Royal Ballroom tomorrow.
The annual event, dubbed Bangkok Chefs Charity Gala Dinner, will be presided over by HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn. It is a part of a charitable project to help lend support to disadvantaged schoolchildren nationwide.
Since it was inaugurated in 2009, the project has presented more than 87.5 million baht to the Princess. The fund is used to benefit Royal Patrol Police schools, by providing scholarships and learning materials as well as improving school facilities.
The 2018 edition features an international collaboration of 5-star chefs, who work in pairs to craft a 10-course dinner menu using the finest imported ingredients, including French foie gras and Perigord duck breast, Canadian lobsters, Australia baby lamb, Alaskan wild salmon and Hokkaido scallops from the world's best sources.
The dinner also showcases prime-quality local produce such as Chiang Mai white truffles, camellia seed oil and edible flowers -- all from the royally-initiated projects.
Another highlight this year is the participation of 11 aspiring young chefs who have been carefully selected and have shown an interest in cooking.
As usual, towards the end of the dinner benevolent guests will enjoy a grand auction of chefs. Top bidders are granted a formal meal cooked by their chosen chefs at the guests' private residence.
The event is also supported by the Tourism Authority of Thailand, and wines from Central Wine Cellar. All proceeds from ticket sales and auctions, without any deductions, will go to charity.
Dinner starts with a cocktail reception at 5.30pm at the Royal Ballroom foyer. Tickets cost 12,500 baht per seat.
