Top chefs have been left heartbroken after a beloved Michelin starred restaurant burned down in the California wildfires.

The famed Restaurant at Meadowood was completely destroyed in the the Glass Incident fire, which has also claimed a string of wineries and burned more than 36,000 acres.

The Napa Valley eatery, which has three Michelin stars and is currently run by chef Christopher Kostow, was located in the luxurious St Helena resort.

The restaurant had only recently re-opened after being shut due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Celebrity chef David Chang took to Twitter to mourn the loss of the restaurant.

“Chef Kostow is a visionary and helped build a magical restaurant,” said Mr Chang.

“One of the very best in the world and dedicated so many years to building Meadowood. Unbelievably sad. F*** 2020.”

Mr Kostow took to Instagram to address the loss.

“We are all torn apart. A Eulogy is deserved, and will be given in due time,” he wrote.

Other chefs who took to social media to mourn the loss included Dominique Crenn, Mourad Lahlou, Katianna Hong, Fabian von Hauske and Daniel Patterson.

“My heart is broken. another icon fell. so many dreams. so much work,” wrote Mr Lahlou.
