Top chef issues warning to anyone who cooks pizza in the oven

A top chef has explained the correct way to prepare pizza.

Alexis Conran has explained how anyone who puts the Italian favourite in the oven is making a huge mistake. - as Birmingham Live reports.

The Celebrity Masterchef 2016 champion now hosts the Channel 5 documentary series Secrets of the Fast Food Giants - and he advised how people should instead use a grill to make pizza.

He said: "What you do is you put this in your oven, whack it up to your top temperature [grill] in your high shelf, and what happens is that it is so hot it cooks your base.

"It's what you like, doughy, and gives the dough a time to rise because it has been cooked from the bottom.

"While the grill is melting everything above."

The French born actor is best known for his stint co-hosting BBC's The Real Hustle - and his latest show investigates the history behind the success of the world's most successful fast food chains.

In the latest episode, he lauded the grilled pizza.

He said: “I think if this came in a Dominoes box I probably wouldn't be able to tell the difference, apart from the crust."

He also tested an oven cooked pizza - which he was less complimentary about.

He added: "This one tastes more like a supermarket pizza, like a frozen pizza."

Secret of the Fast Food Giants airs on Channel 5 on Thursdays at 7pm
