Top Bristol pizza restaurant Bosco eyes up new site in former salon

One of Bristol’s top pizza restaurants is looking to open a new site in a former tanning salon.

Bosco Pizzeria on Whiteladies Road is one of the city’s most popular restaurants.

The Bristol-based brand has been so successful that it opened a new restaurant in Bath over the summer.

Bosco had a second Bristol site in Clifton’s Regent Street and although it did well as a takeaway during the pandemic, it hasn’t reopened since.

But now the owners have applied for a premises licence for a site that was formerly a tanning salon.

Under the applicant name of Bosco Clifton Limited, it will trade primarily as a bar and restaurant.

The site is listed as 5 The Promenade, Gloucester Road, which is a few doors along from the The Gallimaufry and used to be home to Gloden tanning and beauty salon.

The 1436 sq ft ground-floor property was recently marketed by agents Burston Cook, with a rent of £20,000 per annum. Burston Cook’s website says the property is now ‘under offer’.

And the new restaurant won’t be called Bosco - the premises name is listed as ‘Pizzucci’, which Bosco boss Miles Johnson says is a new concept his team developed in lockdown.

Miles says it’s still early days and he won’t yet reveal the full details about Pizzucci, other than it’s a pizza restaurant, as the name suggests.

He said: “The lease is not yet signed and there’s a fair bit to do in order to get it across the line. Once we are sure we will be proceeding, all will be revealed!”
