Top Bristol café operators to launch speciality coffee and doughnut shop

The team behind two of Bristol's most popular cafes are opening a new speciality coffee and doughnut shop.

Building on the success of Small St Espresso and Little Victories, Chris Chubb and John Drysdale are launching their third business in a rapidly changing area of Bristol.

Small Goods is set to open at Temple Quay this summer, on the doorstep of a multitude of new office blocks and flats. A more precise opening date will be announced as the renovation project nears completion.

Customers will be able to order from a range of doughnuts made fresh on site, either on their own or in boxes, washed down with top notch coffee made to the same exacting standards as the flat whites served at Small St Espresso and Little Victories.

"The main reason we wanted to open a doughnut shop is quite simply because we both love doughnuts," said Chris. "We also think they're great for busy office areas like Temple Quay.

"Nearby workers will be able to grab a box of doughnuts on their lunch break and take them back to the office with them to share with their colleagues.

"We took on this unit at the end of 2019 before being forced to put everything on hold because of the pandemic, so it's been a long time coming and we can't wait to get going."

Small Goods will be managed by Brian O’Hara, whose face will be familiar to Little Victories regulars.

All doughnuts will be made fresh from scratch on site, with dough being left to proof overnight before being shaped by hand and fried each morning.

The menu, which is currently being developed, is likely to include classic fillings such as jam, custard and chocolate alongside some more unusual flavours.

There will also be a range of cakes for people to choose from, as well as a small lunch offering with dishes to be confirmed.

Coffee beans will be supplied by Clifton Coffee Roasters and brewed by an experienced team of baristas.

There will be seating for around 20 people inside and a small outside seating area, in addition to the takeaway option.

"We've spent a lot of time on Small Goods and it's going to look really great when it's finished," added Chris.

"It's going to be really exciting when we open, but I think there will also be a huge sense of relief."

Small Goods is opening at Unit 3, 2 Glass Wharf, BS2 0EL this summer.
