Top Biden adviser: We won't wait on Republicans for "insufficient" stimulus

Top Biden adviser Cedric Richmond told "Axios on HBO" the White House believes it has bipartisan support for a stimulus bill outside the Beltway.

  • "If our choice is to wait and go bipartisan with an insufficient package, we are not going to do that."

The big picture: The bill will likely undergo an overhaul in the Senate after House Democrats narrowly passed a stimulus bill this weekend, reports Axios' Kadia Goba.

Richmond said the Biden White House has not had conversations about busting through the legislative filibuster in the Senate, which requires a 3/5 majority to pass bills.

  • "The Senate has been obstructionists for a long time," Richmond told "Axios on HBO."
  • "We've sent them bills that enjoy support of 97% of Americans ... but it gets over to the Senate and dies," Richmond said."
