Top betting picks for 2022 as England backed to win the World Cup

So 2021 was a weird year for sport, wasn't it?

We had a delayed Olympics and delayed European Championships as well as empty stadiums continuing for the end of the 2020/21 season.

The year saw England fall just short against Italy and Ireland scoop two gold medals in Tokyo.

And, like all things, there were a number of upsets along to way in the ever unpredictable world of sports.

So as we approach a fresh year, here are some of the top betting tips for 2022.

Victor Hovland to win the Masters - 28/1

Norwegian Victor Hovland burst onto the scene when he won best amateur at the Masters back in 2019 and can be seen sitting in Butler's Cabin alongside a certain Tiger Woods.

And 2021 represented a major step up for the 24-year-old with Hovland finishing the year ranked number eight in the world, one spot ahead of Rory McIlroy.

Hovland also went on to represent Europe at the Ryder Cup in Whistling Straits as Padraig Harrington's side suffered a record defeat.

But although the youngster hasn't made a splash in the majors thus far in his young career, the talent is there.

Hovland won an impressive three times in 2021 and won most recently at the Hero World Challenge.

As he heads into Augusta he will be brimming with confidence and Hovland is listed at a great price of 28/1 for the tournament.

Utah Jazz to win Western Conference - 5/1

The Utah Jazz may not be the sexiest team in the NBA but boy are they solid.

Sure, they do not have Steph Curry, LeBron James or Kevin Durant but there's a reason they are consistently in and around the top of the Western Conference.

Although all signs point to last year's finalists the Phoenix Suns or the dynasty that is Golden State Warriors or even the weird collection of golden oldies in the form of the Los Angeles Lakers, the Utah Jazz could well make a splash in the playoffs.

Currently sitting third in the West, they could have a favourable match up in the first round of the playoffs and a team that has often promised but not delivered, perhaps now it is time to make that step up.

England to win the World Cup - 10/1

Okay, okay, okay, we get that there might be some pushback against this but it's pretty reasonable.

Some things are working against England, the main one being that post Euro 2020 a lot of their players have been quite poor.

But England did crack a code of sorts during the summer's tournament and the plan nearly worked perfectly.

There were calls for Gareth Southgate to use his arsenal of talent up front but the England boss was disciplined and defensive, playing with both Declan Rice and Kalvin Phillips in midifeld. Don't concede and bank on the talents of Harry Kane, Raheem Sterling and Mason Mount to produce magic.

There is no stand out team right now going into the World Cup and there's a chance that England's conquerors Italy won't even be there.

Ireland to win the Six Nations - 4/1

All aboard the hype train after a stunning Autumn Series.

Andy Farrell's tenure got off to a bumpy start in the 2020 and 2021 Six Nations with a number of lacklustre performances.

But both Farrell and his squad had promised something was building and you could see that in the final game against England in last year's tournament.

Ireland looked as if they barely broke a sweat in the hammerings of Argentina and Japan and dominated New Zealand when the two faced in Dublin.

With plenty of young talent in the side, Ireland are third favourites for the competition and can be found at 9/2 in some bookmakers.
