Just a few days after Tom Izzo was in Ypsilanti, Michigan to visit with Emoni Bates and his family, Michigan State hosted Bates, along with another highly ranked prospect AJ Hoggard in East Lansing this weekend according to Jake Weingarten of Stockrisers. Hoggard was on an official visit while Bates’ visit was listed as unofficial.
Emoni Bates is the number one prospect in the 2022 recruiting class and considered to be one of the best prospects of this century. 247sports currently has MSU listed as having a 50% shot at landing Bates in recruitment, with Kentucky receiving the other 50%. Of course, there is a chance that Bates could be the first to utilize a new straight-to-NBA rule if Adam Silver and the NBA decide to allow players to do so.
MSU offered AJ Hoggard a basketball scholarship back in May. Hoggard, the four-star point guard currently playing for Huntington Prep, is the number two ranked point guard out of the state of Pennsylvania, the number 13 point guard in the country, and the number 71 ranked prospect in the 2020 class overall, according to 247sports.
While it’s great that MSU had two great prospects in town this weekend, I’m sure they took them to what was a very disappointing football game against Arizona State. Maybe Izzo should’ve loaded up for that Western game instead…
