Everyone knows about the big names from the Pittsburgh Steelers 2019 NFL draft. Devin Bush, Diontae Johnson and Justin Layne are the guys who are drawing most of the offseason attention. Rightfully so as all three have top-tier starter potential. But who will be the steal from this class? Here are our four top candidates.
LB Ulysees Gilbert III
If we were ranking these guys, Gilbert might be our top choice. Despite being a sixth-round pick, Gilbert is in a position on the Steelers to have a rookie impact on special teams as well as a sub-package linebacker. His speed and athleticism make him a candidate to play inside and outside and with the Steelers depth at linebacker, we could see him on the field early.
RB Benny Snell Jr.

Maybe not this season but in a year or two we could be talking about Snell as one of the top running backs in the league. Snell was incredibly productive at Kentucky and he brings his physical running style to the Steelers. He might be too good to keep on the field, even as a rookie.
TE Zach Gentry

We were critical of the pick of Gentry but considering the situation he’s in, there’s a real shot Gentry gets significant reps. Pittsburgh loves to run two tight ends and Gentry is a huge target. If he can show he can block, there will be a place for him in this offense.
DL Isaiah Buggs

If Buggs turns out to be a starter for this team in a year or two, no one should be shocked. He slipped because he’s a pure 3-4 defensive lineman but he fits the Steelers scheme perfectly. Buggs has a nasty demeanor on the field and brings it on every play.
