Top 20 coronavirus hotspots among over-60s as millions could face wait for vaccine
pThe top 20 coronavirus hotspots among the over-60 age group have been revealed./p
pAccording to analysis of Public Health England data from the week to 29 November, Boston in Lincolnshire had the highest number of Covid-19 cases among the over-60s, at about 564 per 100,000 people./p
p It was the highest rate recorded for this age group, the analysis by the a href=https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-55074293BBC/a showed. /p
pMedway in Kent had the second rate at 432 per 100,000, followed by Swale in Kent at 388 per 100,000./p
pLincoln had 368 per 100,000 people and Gravesham, in Kent, had 346 per 100,000./p
pKent was the county with the county with the highest infection rates in the over-60s age group./p

p It comes as a top health official said most people over 80 in Britain will have to wait until next year to get the a href=https://www.mirror.co.uk/all-about/coronavirus-vaccine data-link-tracking=InArticle|Link data-content-type=section-topiccoronavirus vaccine/a. /p
pChris Hopson, chief executive of NHS Providers, said the quot;vast majorityquot; of people at the top of the priority list wonapos;t get a jab until January, February or March./p
pProfessor Stephen Powis, NHS national medical director, said the distribution of the vaccine would be a quot;marathon not a sprintquot;./p
pVaccinations will be administered at dozens of hospital hubs from Tuesday - dubbed quot;V-Dayquot; by Health Secretary Matt Hancock - with people aged 80 and older, care home workers and NHS workers who are at higher risk at the front of the queue./p

pThe Government expects quot;the majorityquot; of vulnerable people will be vaccinated in January and February./p
pBut the over 60s are low down on the list of ten groups most likely to get the life-saving jab first./p
pDowning Street would not confirm whether they were expecting four million doses of the Pfizer vaccine to arrive by the end of the year./p
pquot;We obviously have 40 million doses on order but the scale of the delivery depends on the manufacturing process as we move forward through December,quot; the Prime Ministerapos;s official spokesman said./p

pAround 25 million people are covered by the 10 priority categories set out by the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation./p
pThe first vaccinations will go to care home staff and residents, NHS frontline workers and people aged 80 and over - around six million people./p
pAsked how many people will be vaccinated by the end of February, the spokesman said: quot;The majority of the vaccination of the vulnerable will be in January or February.quot;/p
pBut the spokesman stressed that two further vaccines were still being assessed by regulators, which could boost the number of doses available./p
