Top 9 ways to coronavirus-proof your Merseyrail commute

The number of people infected with coronavirus in the UK continues to rise every day.

Currently, confirmed cases have now hit three figures, with more than 18,000 people tested.

On Thursday afternoon, the Department of Health said that 115 people in the UK had tested positive for the illness.

As the number grows, commuters are taking extra risks - wearing masks and stocking up on hand sanitiser.

The UK is bracing itself for the full impact of coronavirus (PA)

Merseyrail hasn't released advice on preventing the spread of Covid-19 because Public Health England has not deemed it a high risk.

However, you might still be feeling a little uneasy, so here are 9 less extreme ways to coronavirus-proof your Merseyrail commute.

1. Wear gloves if you need to hold on

2. Use hand gel before and after you get on

3. Take an anti-bacterial wipe with you to wipe down the pole

4. Cough and sneeze into your elbow

5. Even better, cough or sneeze into a tissue and throw it away as soon as possible

6. Take the train earlier in the morning so less people have left their germs there

7. Wash your hands as often as possible, for 20 seconds using soap


8. Don't travel if you feel unwell

9. Keep checking for the latest government advice
