1. There were several show-stopping finales at Milan fashion week this season. Here are our top three, starting with Missoni's homage to the Terracotta Army ...Photograph: Jo Jones and Helen SeamonsThen there was Versace's version of Miss WorldPhotograph: Jo JonesAnd finally, Dolce and Gabbana's underwear encorePhotograph: Filippo Monteforte/AFP/Getty Images
2. Beach prints, short shorts and - the 'highlight' to any party - chandelier dresses set our hearts racing at Prada. If super-luxe is a girl's best friend, Bottega Veneta can do no wrong. We would eBay our entire wardrobe for an outing in this dress!Photograph: Jo Jones4. Trendspot: cutout handbags. Always scrambling around in cavernous dark handbags for awol iphones and travel cards? The helpful folks at Dolce, Jil Sander and Marni offer a solution in the shape of intricate laser-cut, see-through mesh bags Photograph: Jo Jones5. Jil Sander was our show of the week, mostly because designer Raf Simons used a 70s art house film, Zabriskie Point, which depicted naked couples rolling passionately in the dust as a backdrop to his exquisite collection. We loved watching the straight-faced fashion editors reduced to giggling teenagers watching a sex scene in front of their parents. Juvenile? Us?Photograph: Jo Jones6. Trendspot two: pants. The Observer team has named them the 'Tudor short' and whether you like it or not, the medieval nappy silhouette was everywhere in Milan. PS. Sportmax showed one of Milan's most wearable collections: we loved the hidden lace panels and utilitarian sporty shapesPhotograph: Matteo Bazzi/EPA8. This season the Gucci woman is part human, part robot: evening dresses were adorned with hardware that appeared to spread into the cutaway detailPhotograph: Luca Bruno/AP10. Marni, Fendi and Ferretti showed silk embellishment, diaphanous chiffon and apron dresses.
