At No. 7 on our countdown of the best Georgia football players for 2019, we have defensive back Eric Stokes.
Stokes is Georgia’s next big thing at cornerback. He had a great year in 2018 and a strong spring performance as well. Look for him to lock down receivers and emerge as one of the SEC’s best cornerbacks.
Georgia fans will hope he can fill the void left by Deandre Baker. Though that they may be nearly impossible, expect Stokes to come pretty close. They both play physical, smart defense and seem to show up when needed most.
Stokes, out of Covington, Georgia, is only entering his redshirt sophomore year at UGA. In 2018, he played in 13 of 14 games and started three of the last four. Stokes came up big against Alabama, recording four tackles and breaking up a pass in the end zone.
On top of that, Stokes was also responsible for the special teams play of the year when he blocked a Missouri punt and returned it eight yards for a touchdown.
