Tooting Bec Road - (Google Maps)

A cyclist has been left fighting for life after a collision with a van in south London on Friday night as a driver was arrested.

Police were called to the collision at around 10.30pm on the junction of Tooting Bec Road and Franciscan Road, close to Tooting Bec Common. The cyclist was seriously injured.

Officers said the cyclist was rushed to hospital where they remain in a life-threatening condition.

The 50-year-old driver of the van was arrested on suspicion of causing serious personal injury by dangerous driving, failing to stop at an accident and being unfit through drink.

He remains in custody, a Scotland Yard spokesperson said.

Detectives from the Met’s Roads and Transport Policing Command are investigating.

Anyone with information or dash cam footage is being asked to call 101 reference 8934/01Nov.
