Tooping the Colour: Prince Louis steals spotlight with toothless grin and waving at Buckingham Palace

Prince Louis’ toothless grin and passionate waving stole the show at the King’s official birthday celebrations, with his older brother having to gently stop him at one stage.

The seven-year-old was met with cheers as he repeatedly waved from the balcony at Buckingham Palace during the Trooping the Colour parade on Saturday.

Louis was seen laughing and sporting a big toothless smile as he stood with other members of the royal family, waiting for the Red Arrows to fly over The Mall.

At one stage, Prince George had to give him a slight nudge on the arm as Louis repeatedly waved to onlookers.

The King and Queen were spotted smiling as they watched Louis’ antics, with Charles appearing to be pointing and laughing alongside his grandson.

Earlier in the day, Louis and George also shared a laugh while in a carriage during the event, where the two boys could be seen chuckling and hiding their faces in their hands.

Louis was seen giving beaming smiles to onlookers as he attended the military parade while sitting in a carriage next to his brother George.

The King, who is currently undergoing cancer treatment, did not ride during this year’s procession but instead attended the celebrations in a carriage alongside Queen Camilla.

The King and Queen later appeared on the balcony at Buckingham Palace to watch a flypast of military aviation at the close of the Trooping the Colour parade.

They were joined by the Prince and Princess of Wales and their children, as well as the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh, along with the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester.

Spectators in The Mall cheered as the Royal Air Force Aerobatic Team – the Red Arrows – flew overhead, releasing colourful trails of red, white, and blue smoke.

The force used a blend of sustainable aviation fuel and normal jet fuel for their engines, as well as a renewable biofuel for the smoke trails.

As the royal family turned to go back inside, Louis was spotted turning one final time to wave to well-wishers.

Earlier in the day, a minute’s silence was observed during Trooping the Colour in honour of those killed in the Air India plane crash.

All attendees were asked to stand during the commemoration at Horse Guards Parade in central London.

Charles requested the moment of reflection be added to the Trooping the Colour programme “as a mark of respect for the lives lost, the families in mourning and all the communities affected by this awful tragedy”, a Buckingham Palace spokesperson said.
