
PRACHUAP KHIRI KHAN: Singer Toon Bodyslam has resumed his hospital charity marathon after a rest of two and a half days, as donations top 330 million baht.
The rocker had to take a break on Wednesday to recover from wear and tear on his body after covering more than 850 kilometres. He began running at 5am Saturday at Wat Bang Waen school in Pathiu district of Chumphon. One hour and 20 minutes later he entered Prachuap Khiri Khan province at tambon Sai Thong in Bang Saphan Noi district.
Along the route, many supporters lined the roads to wave and give donations to Toon, also known as Artiwara Kongmalai.
He plans to run 50 kilometres on Saturday.
As of 2pm Saturday, Toon had logged 887 kilometres since he set off on Nov 1 from Betong district in Yala, the country's southernmost point, on a quest for donations to help state hospitals in need of more and better equipment for patients.
All told, he intends to cover 2,191km in 55 days. He has now covered 40.5% of his planned total distance of 2,191 kilometres, and has spent 20 days or 160 hours on the road.
He plans to reach Mae Sai district in Chiang Rai on Dec 25, with 700 million baht in hand. So far, according to the Kao Kon Lakao (everyone takes a step) website, contributions have surpassed 330 million baht.
In December 2016, Toon ran 400km from Bangkok to Bang Saphan hospital, raising a total of 85 million baht for the hospital to buy medical equipment.
