Sam Stewart is the Newcastle Knight who looks back on a 24-6 defeat and doesn't call it a touch-up in the early days of the club - he called it "motivation".

The Newcastle Knights inaugural captain now lives on the Gold Coast and just an hour before speaking with host Barry Toohey on this week's Toohey's News podcast, Stewart welcomed his 14th grand child.

Stewart joins Toohey in episode 21 of Toohey's News to reminisce about the Knight's earliest days, the emergence of the club's biggest stars, the game tactics employed in the good old days of rugby league, and one infamous pass right into the third row of the grandstand.
