West Ham United legend Paolo Di Canio has claimed that Manchester United overpaid for Brazilian winger Antony and mocked his 'pirouettes' when attacking.
Erik ten Hag targeted the former Ajax man in the summer as he looked to strengthen the Reds' forward options. The Amsterdam club's manager at the time, Alfred Schreuder, was determined to keep hold of the 22-year-old however Antony made his feelings clear that he wanted to make the switch to Old Trafford.
Once a fee of £86m was agreed with the Eredivisie club, Antony immediately hit the ground running. Three goals in his first three appearances for the Reds pointed to him being a wise acquisition.

But his strike against Everton back in October was his last goal involvement for United in the Premier League up to this point. Antony has persisted with his skills, and what some may class as showboating, despite his form hitting a tough period and coming under criticism for his tricks from the likes of former Man United player Paul Scholes and others.
It is this side to Antony's game that Di Canio has proceeded to mock in an interview with Sky Sports. The 54-year-old said: "One hundred million to see him feint from a standstill with his legs is too much.
"He pirouettes on himself, he risks breaking his ligaments without the intervention of his opponents." Antony missed the doubleheader with Leeds United due to a leg injury.
Ten Hag has claimed that the injury is not too concerning and that the winger should be fit enough to return against Barcelona in the Europa League.
