'Too late' - Fresh claim made about Nottingham Forest-linked striker as clubs circle

Nottingham Forest-linked Siriki Dembele continues to be at the centre of attention, as the January transfer window draws to a close.

The Reds are said to be keen on the Peterborough United striker, who has also been attracting interest from a number of other clubs.

Dembele has been closely watched by Fulham, with the Peterborough Telegraph reporting the Premier League side have scouted him five times - including against Ipswich Town at the weekend.

But Posh director of football Barry Fry appeared to shut down any prospects of him leaving this month.

GARIBALDI RED: Chris Hughton is definitely the man for the job to help Forest get where they want to be

Fry told the Telegraph: “Fulham have watched Siriki five times. Brian (Talbot, chief scout) was at the game on Saturday and he sent me a message after the game to say they wouldn’t be making an offer during the current transfer window.

“That’s not to say they won’t be back in the summer when clubs’ finances are clearer.

"There is no money about right now and certainly not enough for us to part with Siriki.

“It’s getting too late in the window now anyway. We wouldn’t have time to get a replacement.”

Rangers, Celtic, Sheffield United and Cardiff City have also been linked with Dembele ahead of next Monday’s 11pm deadline.

Forest remain keen to further strengthen their attacking resources before the transfer window closes.

Fry last week rubbished claims the Reds had made a fresh bid to sign his star man, but said they attempted a swap deal involving Tyler Walker before the season started.

“It’s total rubbish and there’s not a cat in hell’s chance we would even consider that kind of deal,” he told Nottinghamshire Live.

“There are Premier League clubs interested, but he has 18 months left on his contract and we don’t want to lose our best players in January.

“I did speak to Ioannis (Vrentzos) at Forest at the start of the season about Siriki and they wanted to do a straight swap for Tyler Walker.

“While we liked Tyler, we did not feel he was in the same bracket so we told them that we were not interested.

“We’ve heard nothing more from Forest whatsoever and I’ve not spoken to Ioannis since that conversation at the start of the season.”
