Too Hot to Handle: Could Netflix's dating show with a twist be the new Love Island?

Netflix is on a roll right now when it comes to unmissable content.

Following recent smash-hit shows such as Tiger King and Love is Blind, the streaming service has teased a brand new reality series for subscribers to obsess over.

Too Hot to Handle, set to drop on Netflix this week, follows 10 sexy and single contestants from all over the globe as they move into a luxury villa for four weeks. So far, so Love Island.

However, instead of coupling up in paradise, our singletons are warned by Alexa-style device Lana that any physical contact, ranging from kissing to sex, is prohibited.

The retreat, they learn, will test if they can build deeper emotional connections with one another – similar to Love Is Blind’s infamous ‘pods’.

Any sexual contact will result in their $100,000 (around £80,000) prize money being reduced.

However, the warning seemingly doesn’t stop the singletons, with the teaser trailer showing several people on the programme kissing and getting physical with one another.

“These commitment-phobes who love a casual hook-up, will have to give up all hanky panky for the entire retreat if they want to win the $100,000 grand prize,” Netflix explains. “No kissing, no heavy petting, and no self-gratification of any kind. With every slip, the prize money goes down.

“In this luxury no-bone zone, will the serial singletons be able to form deeper emotional connections? Or will the temptation simply be too hot to handle?”

The show looks like the perfect stop-gap ahead of Love Island, which sees its summer series currently hanging in the balance due to the coronavirus crisis.

An insider revealed that producers were doing all they can to ensure Love Island was to be back in Spain in time for its usual June start date.

“The production team is now doing everything possible to prepare for the new series,” the source told the Daily Star Sunday.

"It's a difficult time but it's a case of 'all systems go'. They're determined not to let the virus stop the series going ahead."

Too Hot to Handle launches Friday April 17 on Netflix.
