Tony Watt on the lookout for next club as striker to leave St Johnstone

Tony Watt will leave St Johnstone at the end of the season after Tommy Wright confirmed the striker's impending exit.

The 25-year has led a nomadic existence in recent years having spent time with Hearts, Cardiff, Charlton and OH Leuven.

Watt burst onto the scene in 2012 when he scored Celtic's winner in the famous 2-1 win over Barcelona in the Champions League.

But the striker failed to live up to expectations and joined Belgian side Standard Liege after a spell with Lierse on loan.

He penned a one-year deal with the Saints last summer but will be moving on once his deal expires at McDiarmid Park.

Watt started the season brightly and netted six goals by August but has only found the net on two occasions since.

The St Johnstone boss admits he wanted the forward to stay but a deal couldn't be reached.

Wright said: “We spoke to Tony and his adviser last week.

“He’ll be leaving at the end of the season.

“We made Tony an offer. It wasn’t what he was looking for.

“I fully understand that. A player has a valuation for himself and our valuation doesn’t match Tony’s.

“So we’re looking elsewhere to bring another striker in next season.”
