Tony Romo fails to make the cut at Safeway Open

Tony Romo put a scare into the CBS broadcasting schedule for Sunday’s Vikings-Bears game by going under par Thursday. The former Dallas Cowboys quarterback was unable to seal the deal and missed making the Safeway Open cut with a 6-over par round on Friday.

Romo shot a 70 in the opening round of the tournament being played in Napa, CA. Had he followed up with another solid 18, he would have missed his assignment on the NFC North clash to play in the final two rounds.

However, it was not to be. Romo made nine bogeys against three birdies and wound up with a second-round 78 that put his 36-hole total at 148, which was well off the minus-two cut line.

“Well, didn’t hit many fairways today,” Romo said. “With the firmness of the greens, it’s just difficult when you put yourself in some of the spots I was. I didn’t putt well. Started three three‑putts, I think, on the front, first eight holes.  Kind of gets you a little antsy as far as trying to get some of them back. And didn’t hit the fairways enough today.”
