Tony Hawk's hit Pro Skater game is getting remade

The popular video game Tony Hawk's Pro Skater is set to be remastered and re-released this year.

The Playstation 1 game was first released in 1999 and earned widespread critical acclaim.

Now, Activision and Hawk himself have confirmed that the game will be remade, with sharp new graphics.

All the best elements of the original Pro Skater 1 and 2 games will be merged into one package, complete with new tricks.

A trailer released last night shows some clips from the original game alongside the new 4K graphics.

The urban locations and punk soundtrack will be familiar to anyone who spent their teenage years skating around virtual landscapes.

The soundtrack will feature songs from Papa Roach, Rage Against the Machine and Dead Kennedys, to name a few.

Hawk shared the news on his 52nd birthday with a tweet that read: "Happy birthday to me!"

He then later posted: "#THPS is back! Original maps, original skaters, and songs from the original soundtrack… plus new features. Thanks to all the fans of our series for keeping this dream alive."

Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 + 2 is due to be released on September 4 this year, on Playstation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
