Pop star Tony Hadley has helped a quiz contestant strike Gold after he claimed he was cheated out of the top prize.
Muhammad Shalehan, 32, phoned into a radio show in Singapore which was running a competition in which listeners had to correctly identify 14 celebrities from audio snippets of their voice.
The dad-of-two, who is due his third child in August, spent weeks listening to The Celebrity Name Drop quiz, with a $10,000 Singapore dollars (£5,760) prize, on radio station Gold 905.
Finally, he rang in with his 14 names, including Tony Hadley, but was told he had got one wrong.
But Muhammad then heard another caller win the contest with exactly the same answers.
The radio station claimed he had mispronounced Tony Hadley’s name.
Muhammad decided to appeal to Hadley himself, who replied with a video.
In it, the former Spandau Ballet star said: “I’ve listened to the tape... as far as I’m concerned, you pronounced my name absolutely correctly.”
Following the singer’s intervention, Gold 905 yesterday agreed to award him the $10,000.
A “shocked” and “so happy” Muhammad said: “I couldn’t have done it without the help of Mr Tony Hadley.”
