Tony Fitzpatrick believes St Mirren have squad depth to make top six dream a reality

Club legend Tony Fitzpatrick believes St Mirren finally have the strength in depth to make their top-six bid stick.

The Buddies have raced out of the traps in the Premiership, launching themselves up to fourth after a run of four wins in five games.

Fitzpatrick, now a Saints ambassador, has been gutted to see his beloved club’s top-half push fall agonisingly short in recent seasons.

But he’s confident the Paisley side now have the manager and the squad depth to make their dream a reality this time.

Speaking exclusively to Renfrewshire Sport, Fitzpatrick said: “I truly believe this is the year we’re going to make it into the top six.

“The players that we’ve managed to bring into the club are a brilliant standard. The likes of Keanu Baccus and Ryan Strain have been superb. Not only that, they’ve settled in quickly, too.

“To be a top-six team, you’ve got to carry a strong squad that can cope with injuries and suspensions. We’ve maybe lacked that in recent seasons.

“When you look at our bench now we’ve got great players there. There was talk of the likes of Joe Shaughnessy and Greg Kiltie leaving in the last window, but it’s been so important to keep them at the club.

Stephen Robinson is clearly doing very well on the training ground as well. He’s got the team playing brilliantly and certainly everything seems to be moving in the right direction.

“It’s been a tremendous run and hopefully we can keep that going against Livingston this weekend.”
