Tony Cascarino's Arsenal claim that won't go down well with Gunners' fans

Tony Cascarino has claimed Arsenal have ‘become a smaller club’ since moving into the Emirates Stadium.

The Gunners left Highbury in 2006 to move into their new state of the art stadium with the club’s hierarchy, at the time, promising supporters that the move would enable them to compete at the top end of world football.

But since then, the Gunners have regressed, and haven’t claimed the Premier League title since leaving their historic home.

And Cascarino believes the Gunners have been average on the pitch since their stadium move, with the club now divided following Unai Emery's sacking.

“Arsenal had a direction of leaving Highbury to go to the Emirates to compete with rub shoulders with the best clubs in the world, but they haven't done that,” the former Chelsea man told talkSPORT.

“They’ve ended up moving out of Highbury but they might as well have moved to Barnet!

“They’ve become a smaller club by leaving Highbury and unless they get that intention back Arsenal are always going to fall short.

James Benge on Unai Emery being sacked

“Everything about Arsenal has been average [under Unai Emery].

“Their goal for column is average, their goals against column is average and so is their points tally.

“Looking back now, Wenger’s three FA Cup wins in his final years was amazing. Really, they shouldn’t have been anywhere near a trophy.

“They’ve had new players since, but generally Wenger got a lot more out of that squad. He got them into a higher position and won the FA Cup three times!

“The whole club is divided. The fans are the most important thing, they have to trust and believe in you and have a relationship with their players.

“They adore their players and the players have to give the same affection to their fans, but that isn’t happening at Arsenal. There’s massive divide at that football club.
