Tony Cascarino calls for Steve Bruce to save face and 'walk away' from Newcastle

Former Chelsea striker Tony Cascarino has called for Steve Bruce to walk away from Newcastle claiming the Magpies boss does not need to "suffer" as Toon head coach.

Newcastle are without a win in all competitions so far this season and pressure is beginning to mount on Bruce.

Cascarino believes that Bruce is fighting a losing battle at his boyhood club and he should walk away from the club.

Speaking on TalkSPORT, Cascarino said: "Steve's earned a lot of money as a player and look, money isn't the driving force because he obviously loves being a manager. He's earned a lot of money as a manager as well, and I know how much Newcastle means to him.

"But, there's a part of me - and it's not my decision because it's his life - it feels like you cannot win this battle at Newcastle.

"You cannot win. Do you really need to suffer and go through what you're going through as a person?

"I think there's a real strain for Steve on this. I mean, I don't know. I've not spoken to him personally about it.

"He's got a fanbase that don't want the owner which is quite clear. They don't particularly like him because he's associated with the owner. They've had bad results.

"I just think Steve, do you really need all that's being thrown at you?

"You can argue - yes, look, he loves to be a manager and doesn't want to be seen as walking away.

"But, again it's not for me, I just want him to say 'Do you know what, I can't take this anymore'.

"You can say 'It's the chicken's way out,' but it's not."
