Tony Cascarino believes Sam Allardyce would improve Arsenal as Englishman linked with Ireland job

Former Ireland international Tony Cascarino believes Sam Allardyce would make Arsenal 'way better' as the former West Brom boss continues to be linked with the Ireland job.

Allardyce has been out of work since he left West Brom after his intervention couldn't help the Baggies avoid relegation to the Championship at the end of last season.

And with the pressure mounting on Stephen Kenny after further disappointing results, Allardyce has yet again been linked with the Irish manager's job.

Allardyce has long been used as a quick-fix solution in the club game, earning a reputation for guiding relegation-threatened Premier League clubs through survival scraps; Blackburn Rovers, Sunderland and Crystal Palace all avoided relegation having appointed Allardyce mid-season.

He could not repeat the feat with West Brom last season, but Cascarino still feels as though Big Sam could work miracles with an Arsenal side struggling under Mikel Arteta.

Speaking to Talksport , he said: “If you look at what he did to West Brom – I know they went down – but he certainly made them far better defensively.

“He’d make Arsenal way better.

“I know some Arsenal fans don’t care about that, they want their teams to have flair, but I think Sam would undoubtedly do a better job than Arteta is doing at the moment.”

Arsenal currently sit bottom of the Premier League without a point after three games played, having failed to score a single goal thus far.
