Tony Cascarino believes Jack Grealish should switch back to the Republic of Ireland after England snub

Tony Cascarino believes Jack Grealish should switch his international allegiance back to the Republic of Ireland after being left out of Gareth Southgate's most recent England squad.

The Aston Villa star represented the Boys in Green at Under-17, Under-18 and Under-21s level before switching to England in 2015.

But he has yet to receive a senior call-up and has only managed seven U21 appearances in that time.

Speaking after his most recent snub, Cascarino said Grealish would be welcomed back into the Ireland setup.

He told talkSport: "I think Ireland would embrace a player of Jack Grealish’s quality.

"If he really doesn’t see himself getting a chance with England, then of course why not going and play international football for Ireland?

"Ireland forgive nearly all things, they don’t question you for too long as long and you give the commitment and desire, the Irish fans would adore someone like Jack.

"We miss so much quality in the team and he would certainly give us that."

Even if Grealish wanted to play for Ireland, he would be unable to switch back due to FIFA's rules.

Cascarino's comments come after Stephen Kenny named his first ever senior Ireland squad earlier this week ahead of next week's Nations League games against Bulgaria and Finland.

Adam Idah and Jayson Molumby have been promoted to the senior squad, while Troy Parrott, a team-mate at Under-21 level and who made his senior debut last year under Mick McCarthy, was included among the strikers.

Glenn Whelan, Sean Maguire and Jack Byrne were among those to miss out.
