Tony Campana and wife announce White Sox signing

Nov. 28--Tony Campana's wife announced on Twitter the former Cubs outfielder has signed a deal with the White Sox, which was later confirmed on Twitter by the player himself.

White Sox general manager Rick Hahn was unavailable for comment on the Twitter announcements from Mr. and Mrs. Campana.

Campana's wife, Whitney, originally tweeted: "Now that the contract has been signed I can finally announce that @tcampana_24 has signed with the #WhiteSox! We are very thankful for this opportunity SO excited to be much closer to home!!!!"

Tony Campana followed later with his own tweet: "Excited for the new opportunity with White Sox organization!"

Exactly what the opportunity is was not revealed. The 28-year-old Campana is likely to receive an invite to spring training on a minor league deal with a chance of making the team.

The diminutive Campana was a fan favorite on the North Side who stole 54 bases in 59 attempts in 2011-'12 while hitting .262. The Cubs dealt him to Arizona in spring training of 2013, and the Angels acquired Campana last summer before he became a free agent in October.

The light-hitting centerfielder has a .249 career average and a .583 OPS. His primary asset is his pinch-running ability. The Sox have little team speed on the roster.
